Big Ideas for Digital Learning | Pinner Digital Learning Day

About Digital Learning Day
While today is designated Digital Learning Day, it is truly a culminating celebration of what has been a collection of year long activities focused on teaching practices that are supported by technology. The Alliance for Excellent Education, a nonprofit initiative, sponsors Digital Learning Day. You can learn more about the work of the alliance and the Digital Learning Policy Center by visiting http://digitallearningday.org. While you are there, if you have not already signed up to participate in Digital Learning Day, we strongly urge you to do so. After all, you need to be counted as a digital learner too!

What prompted you to begin pinning?
We were visiting a school in Texas and a teacher mentioned that she loved Pinterest. We investigated and found it was another useful way to share and disseminate information in addition to other social media platforms.

Do you curate using any other tools?
We also use Twitter and Facebook but no other curating tools. We love how Pinterest is visually organized and so fun to explore!

How do you collect pins?
We create a lot of our own pins to showcase our free content. We also get a lot of ideas from Twitter.

Any particular recommendations to Follow?
Edutopia, Edudemic, and of course Indiana eLearning!

Do you have a favorite board(s) you curate?
I love infographics, so that is one. My new favorite is Celebrations where we highlight how people are celebrating Digital Learning Day!

Can you share any advice for new Pinners?
I love the search feature. Start by searching for what you love and follow people who post a lot of what interests you.

Spread the word! Every teacher should tell every other teacher they know about this and other resources. A lot of people still think Pinterest is just for fun recipes or fashion, but it's a fantastic educational resource.
